Fyre Festival Documentary Review

So the documentary that I watched is called Fyre: the greatest party that never happened. To me this was a truly crazy story and so much happened that I still can't believe. The Fyre Festival was scheduled to be about two years ago in 2017. There was a young guy who was said to be one of the best entrepreneurs, his name is Billy McFarland. Billy has a previous company which sells sleek looking metal credit cards. He does a lot of his advertising with parties and soon gets a partnership with a pop star named Ja Rule. So, Ja and Billy come up with this app idea called Fyre, an app where you can pay artists to come perform at your events. I think It is actually a really good idea. Anyways, to promote their new idea they come up with a huge festival, that will take place on an island in the Bahamas. They find this island that they buy and start to plan this crazy party. Billy and his team starts to pick up a lot of momentum, like Kylie Jenner and a bunch of other famous people were advertising this festival on instagram. So with social media these days, everybody starts to wonder what this is and how do I get involved. So when tickets first went on sale 95% of the tickets were already sold. Tickets were very expensive for a very luxurious experience on an island. Then time starts to run out and with like 3 weeks until the event they start construction. They run into a lot of different problems along the way. Throughout this Billy somehow continues to keep bringing a lot of money in. When people finally arrive at the pace is a mess and there is almost no where for people to stay. Then so many crazy things are found out about how the whole operation started and gained so much speed.

From a critical eye this documentary was very interesting to watch. Overall, I really like the layout of this film. I think it really showed a good timeline and you really got a feel for how everything went down. Everything seemed to be in order and was interesting to watch. Another thing that I like was all of the interviews they had in this film. All of the people, interview really shared their side of the story and did not hold anything back. One of the interesting things that I noticed when watching this film was all of the interviews where not in the middle third. All of the interviews the people being interviewed were put, dead center in the middle of the shot. I personally feel that this looked good throughout this film. I also found it interesting how I realised this before I actually had to look back at the film. I realized it about 10 minutes into the film. I also noticed all of the lighting in the interviews. I noticed the hair light and the light in the reflection of their eyes.

I would definitely recommend this film to everyone I know. I felt like it was really interesting and fun to watch. Like I was pulled in and really wanted to know what happened next. Because every time something new happened you would not expect it at all. Like every second something unthinkable really happens. Like when all of the people get there and Billy still tries to have the festival go on. The chaos that is happening at the festival. Or where Billy keeps getting all of his money from. Everything in this film is really mind blowing.
